St Deiniol & St Marcella is a well preserved Georgian building with close ties to the Yorke family of Erddig Hall, bequeathed to the National Trust by the late Philip Yorke lll, last of the family line.

In mid Victorian days, interest in health and in travel coincided with the building of Harrogate around its new Spa, Mary Anne Fielde donated her house to be the Vicarage, and her garden for a church and a school to be built.

In 1898 the Diocese of Menevia was established, and the gothic style Roman Catholic parish church of St Mary became the procathedral, later the cathedral.
