Grand gothic church with a friendly congregation.

Amid scenic country views, this is an important and early Catholic church which has an impressive external design, an intimate and authentic interior and a unique story from construction in stages from a simple rectangular structure in 1785 to housing the bell which was the first one to ring out in the diocese since penal times ahead of the bell at Armagh Cathedral.

This church is named after Mary Barclay who left money for its building, the architect was Frederick T Pilkington and it is considered to be one of his greatest achievements.

St Mark's was built in a unique neoclassical style. It was one of the first Episcopal churches constructed in the Edinburgh Diocese after the repressions of the Penal Laws that followed the Jacobite risings in the 18th century.
