Full of human interest and interwoven with the people of this place for more than a thousand years, the church has survived good times and bad, and in the process has been altered, extended, and embellished.

The size and grandeur of St Mary's reflects the fact that Shipton parish used to include Ramsden and Leafield, villages that now have Victorian churches of their own.

The chapel is in an idyllic position, with the big house on one side and a lake on the other. It is a building entirely in the Gothic style, but was actually built during the 17th century Commonwealth.

The church is in the former stores and maltings of Acresford Brewery, and because of its history and uniqueness in being located in a row of terraced cottages it is a Methodist Heritage Site.

The current church dates from around 1800 and is situated in secluded setting with stunning views, which are enjoyed by visitors, who spend time on the benches appreciating the countryside.

The earliest known date for Impington is AD 991, when the manor was given to the Monastery at Ely by Duke Brithnoth. 

Often referred to as the Cathedral of the Wolds as it is the largest church building in south Nottinghamshire at over 140 foot long including the tower.

With its sumptuous interior, the church was established on this site in the late 11th century but the current building is 19th century.
