The church is at the centre of the village and since modernisation has been used as a community centre.

There has been a church on the site of St John’s for over 140 years, witnessing to God’s love among the people of Upper Norwood.

This beautiful place has been a focus for its community and for countless visitors for just shy of 800 years, with the best preserved Magna Carta of 1215.

Holy Trinity was built in the Gothic style from Kentish rag with white stone dressings and was consecrated in 1878.

The church did have substantial Saxon elements until 1866 and some of the Saxon and later work can still be seen inside, it is the features inside which draw visitors to the church.
