St Winifred’s is one of the finest village churches in Devon with many interesting features, in particular its interesting location, as rather than atop a hillside where it would be visible, St Winifred's is set on a terrace that cannot be seen from the sea.

This ‘hidden gem’ is the earliest known surviving example of a small English parish church designed by ‘God’s Architect’ Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin.

This tucked away church, rebuilt in the 18th century, is internationally known for its astonishing set of windows by the 20th century Russian born artist Marc Chagall, better known for his paintings and for his dramatic cathedral glass in France and at Chichester.
