A traditional village church made from stone from Hadrians Wall.

In 1712 the church was built as a chapel of ease in a farmer’s barn.

A beautiful church of 12th century origins with 18th and 19th century discoveries while excavating the churchyard indicates likely Anglo Saxon foundations, the surrounding conservation churchyard, is a peaceful haven for people and wildlife.

The church is, at the highest point in the village, is on the site of the original church nave and has since been extended and rebuilt.

A church was first established on this site in the aftermath of the Dissolution of the Monasteries when Cartmel Priory was dissolved as part of the Henrician Reformation and a chapel was built on the present site using materials from Cartmel around 1537.

Replacing an earlier Independent chapel dating from 1826, the present church building was erected in 1899.
