Wheatley Lane Methodist Church is situated in the Pendleside area of Lancashire.

A good example of a working class chapel; built by mining families in the 1860s, beautiful in its simplicity.

St Mary's is most famous for carvings from a church or churches that stood on this site going back to Saxon times, found throughout the church, mounted into the fabric of the walls.

Our church building, opened in 1819 originally seated 1500, oday the interior has been tastefully reordered to make it suitable for a wider range of activities for people of all ages; there are activities most days of the week and the church is opened regularly for viewing.

The church building was consecrated in 1848 to a design by the architect William Wallen and has been altered over the years.

The church is an ambitious and self-confident Gothic style building by G B Cox, erected between the wars and finished in 1934.

The Society of Friends emerged in the 1650s, a time of great religious turmoil.

Founded in the 7th century and hidden deep in the Berwyn mountains, the tiny church at St Melangell’s is home to the earliest surviving Romanesque shrine in northern Europe.

Built between 1851 and 1853 at a time when the town was rapidly expanding and prosperous, the church is vast, with a magnificent tower with octagonal spire reaching to some 220 feet high, a landmark which can be seen for many miles around.
