A rural church on the edge of modern life.

Clearly annotated 'Bosham ecclesia', this venerable old church, with its great Saxon chancel arch, is depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry.

The outward appearance is perpendicular but inside is something unique to English parish churches and was described by Nicholas Pevsner as ‘one of the architectural sensations of Cumberland’.

In a high, coastal location and originally whitewashed, the church has been a beacon for pilgrims travelling from the east and west on the pilgrim way for at least 800 years and is still a sanctuary for visitors, walkers, cyclists and nature lovers enjoying the peace of the countryside.

The church was constructed in 1836, designed by noted local architect Joseph Butler.
