Tucked away down a quiet lane next to a farm, 13th century St Leonard's is tiny and does not look promising at first as it is rendered on the outside.

It is believed that Holy Trinity is one of the 'four voices of four hamlets round... the merry, merry bells of Yule' found within the poem 'In Memorium AHH' by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Holy Trinity has Saxon origins but the current building was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. In 1859 the church was extensively altered by Victorian architect James Fowler.

In 1334 John de Harrington founded a chantry in this place, whereby the chaplain and his assistant were enabled to support themselves and pray daily for the souls of their founder and his family.

Chopped off from its village by the main Ipswich trunk road Stratford's church is perhaps best first viewed from the quiet lane.

A magnificent church on a grand scale.

The chapel is above the old stables built at Raithby Hall in 1779 by the then owner Robert Carr Brackenbury, and is one of the oldest Methodist chapels still in use in the country.

Hope Chapel is a vibrant sanctuary space serving residents and visitors in the lovely Pennine town of Hebden Bridge.

St Mary & St Peter is situation east of main village on a high mound; a very peaceful location, of particular note are the Stations of the Cross which are mounted on the walls around the church.

St James the Great, with its Bronte and Anne Lister connections is situated in the beautiful Calder Valley, with its literary and industrial heritage.

Holy Trinity is a delightful rural church in the heart of the village conservation area with a wonderful lychgate and stone cross in the church grounds as well as memorials to the Rawnsley family from Raithby Hall.

Ashby is a remote hamlet and its medieval church of St Andrew is approached across a farmyard. The churchyard affords fabulous views across the Wolds.

Nicholas Leache, rector of Belchford in 1536, was one of the ringleaders in the Lincolnshire Rising in which 3,000 people marched through the county to protest against closure of the monasteries by Henry VIII.
