We welcome visitors, including those of other faiths (we recognise much of beauty, truth and goodness in the other world faiths) to our church. Friendly dogs are welcome.

St Cuthbert’s is a small church with Norman features, a striking 12th century tower and arches, fascinating glass, memorials and evidence of early wall paintings.

The present church was built in 1830/31 on the same site as one dating from the middle 15th century, with interesting treasures are waiting to be found within.

Before 1868 local people had to walk to Kirkburton to go to church.

Why not come and wander, imagining how grand this priory once was from its walls, still laid out in local sandstone.

The village was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Ferlei’ or ‘Fereleia’ which is thought to mean either ‘lea of the ferns’ or ‘the far lea’.

Although the first reference to a church here is from the early 12th century the oldest parts of the church date from the 13th century.

St Edward the Confessor is a Grade II Listed church built in 1860-2 by John Dobson of Newcastle as the result of a generous benefactor.

Since around 1150, the honey coloured Yorkshire stone church and tower of St Peters has been welcoming people to Barnburgh.

All Hallows church is a large and beautiful building dating back at least eight centuries with a list of incumbents that can be traced back at least as far as 1230.

With its stark white walls and impressive high dome the outside of this building tempts visitors to explore further.
