St Boltoph's is a part-thatched 15th century church with some original wall paintings and the only decorative hammer beam roof in this eight church benefice.

From the churchyard there is a beautiful view over the little Glem Valley to the hall, seat of the Poleys (pronounced Pooley).

A church was founded on this site in 635 by St Aidan; the site of his death is marked by a shrine within the present church which dates from the end of the 12th century.
