Welcome to St Peter's, a fascinating early Victorian church serving its urban communities in the past and present, providing an open, warm welcome to all!

As at Long Sutton, the tower here almost stands aside from the main body of the church.

Stainton was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Stantone with Helgebi’ (Hellaby).

St Mary's is the civic church of Barnsley and provides a place of worship, peace and quiet in the town centre.

This church was established in 1865 and the original building, having been extended in 1891 remained in constant use until 1989, when it was demolished.

Welcome to our beautiful and ancient church serving the villages of Sutton, Lound and Barnby Moor.

The church is at the centre of the village and since modernisation has been used as a community centre.

Our beautiful church is known as Barnsley’s 'hidden gem' (as described by John Betjeman).

Built between 1851 and 1853 at a time when the town was rapidly expanding and prosperous, the church is vast, with a magnificent tower with octagonal spire reaching to some 220 feet high, a landmark which can be seen for many miles around. 

The church is of Norman origin but has undergone considerable changes to its layout over the years.
