For a combination of ancient church and classic Cotswold village, Bibury is hard to beat.

The exterior of St Mary's successfully blends elegant Perpendicular lines with rustic stone, partly fieldstone and partly a type of deep golden green sand known as carstone, which came from a nearby quarry known as The Butts.

A delightful church, something of a surprise nestled on a side street in a quiet suburb of a south Wales valleys town, it was built in 1854 in the Gothic style and tells the story of this area, the coal boom on the 19th century which brought workers from all over Wales and a community spirit that is as strong as ever.

Beautifully sited on the River Windrush, St Kenelm's stands next to the dramatic ruined manor house of the Lovells, who rebuilt the original priory church or minster in the mid 15th century.
