The church is probably the most impressive in Wensleydale with a battlemented tower, nave and chancel.

Thruxton church has been at the heart of village life for over 850 years, many of the church’s treasures are in the form of tombs and effigies of some of the Lords and Ladies of the Manor.

Built in the 13th century, the oldest part is the low tower which is surmounted by a small spirelet that is completely out of proportion with the rest of the building!

A Norman (12th century) church, St Mary’s is rich in interesting features including the famous ‘Bed Bug’ weather vane which is said to have been put there to commemorate King John’s fateful visit to the village.

St Eloi is a rare example of a surviving Arts & Crafts influenced church by the architect John Coates Carter.

The first Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in 1786 in the district known as The Wong or Cagthorpe. It was replaced by a new chapel on the same site in 1806.

With 12th century origins St German’s is a grade II listed parish church that sits quite a way outside the village of Ranby, try and spot the large, ornate gargoyles of pigs and humans high above in the tower.

St Mary's is a beautiful Grade II listed church in crucifix form, close to local amenities and stunning local walks.
