St Mary's is one of the Church of England's most historic parishes, today we're a church of different people, a community of all ages, living out our calling.

Our history is inexorably entwined with some of the most radical and progressive developments of the modern age, and yet the core principles at the centre of our congregation remain as true today as they were when the church began.

Essentially, St Mary's is a building of the 13th century, though the tower and the great arches supporting it are 14th century, inserted into the earlier building.

Long, low and with a battlemented and buttressed tower, St George's is built on a grand scale, and was perhaps always larger than its rural agricultural population ever actually needed.

The parish church to the original Iwade village, All Saints is a beautiful ancient building that stands on the site of a pre-Norman chapel.

Jarrow was one of the first places to be invaded by the Vikings, who eventually colonised the North East, and home of the Venerable Bede, a scholar, monk and writer, known as the Father of English History.

St Barnabas Jericho (affectionately known as ‘Oxford Basilica’), will surely strike you by how vast, broad, tall and spacious the building is, with its large arches, its majestic sanctuary and altar and its striking Venetian bell tower or campanile.
