Find a church

A church founded by St Tydecho in the 6th century after his arrival in the area from Cornwall.

In a high, coastal location and originally whitewashed, the church has been a beacon for pilgrims travelling from the east and west on the pilgrim way for at least 800 years and is still a sanctuary for visitors, walkers, cyclists and nature lovers enjoying the peace of the countryside.

Designed by architect Thomas Allom, a founder member of what would become the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Pendref Chapel is thought to be one of the two oldest Welsh Independent Congregational chapels in the county and has a radical crusading past.

The present church contains a fragment of a 13th century nuns choir that was constructed alongside a pre-existing parish church, which explains its unusual shape.

One of the few surviving medieval City churches in London, the foundation date of the church is unknown, but it was first recorded in 1250 as the church of St Adelburga the Virgin.

First mentioned in the 12th century, some fabric of the 1270 church remains, including the crypt.
