St Peters was built at the time the area of Broadwater was developed in the mid 1950s.

With its unusual dedication, to a 6th century saint from north Wales, this is usually considered to be the smallest church in England, set in a secluded wooded combe.

The first recorded reference in history to a church in East Retford comes from 1258 but most of the church was rebuilt in the 1650s, following the collapse of the tower in 1651.
