A charming tiny Somerset village church which has been the centre of worship for the hamlet for over a thousand years.

The chapel was built between the years 1387 and 1395 to designs by William Wynford, with Hugh Herland responsible for the traceried wooden ceiling and Thomas of Oxford for the glazing.

Like so many Somerset churches, Isle Abbots has a splendid tower, and this one is especially graceful, built of Ham stone between 1510 and 1520, with three distinct stages.

St Leonard’s is a very interesting old church with Saxon origins dating back to 900AD as well as a number of periods of construction that can be seen in its walls, including signs of a Norman apse.
