Said to be the smallest active church in Yorkshire, and one of the smallest in Britain, St James is a Grade II listed building.

All Saints is a typical village parish church, but it can be found in many guide books, as it is nationally and internationally famous for its stained glass windows by William Morris.

Ampleforth Abbey is home to a community of Benedictine monks who seek God according to the Gospel and the Rule of St Benedict.

Built between 1681 and 1684, this tiny meeting house, like most Quaker meeting houses, does not look at all like the usual idea of a church.

It is not only the rare dedication to St Guthlac (hermit saint of Croyland in the fens between 677-714) which is unusual but also the church itself.

A truly outstanding example of early Gothic architecture which was once one of the greatest monasteries in England and the inspiration for the design of church buildings throughout the north.

The west entry through the tower porch into its splendid Georgian nave is an architectural surprise and constant attraction to visitors.
