The church was opened as a place of worship for the Methodist Church in February 1910. The congregation is joint Methodist and United Reformed Church, following the closure of the unsafe URC building in the late 1970s.

Substantial internal remodelling to provide updated toilet and kitchen facilities took place between 2002 and 2007. Weekly devotional meetings include a Sunday morning service, a Toddlers group, a Fellowship study group, a prayer meeting, and a ladies Bright Hour group. Regular outreach activities include coffee mornings and tabletop sales. Occasional events include local choir concerts, performance musicals and an art exhibition. The church is also used by outside organisations such as keep fit groups, local choir and for weddings, funerals, baptisms, and children's parties.
