Pilgrim Trust
The Pilgrim Trust sponsor and support the Nayler Awards for Excellence in Church Maintenance. The awards celebrate the magnificent effort of thousands of volunteers who look after church buildings across the UK.
We are really proud to honour churches and the people who care for them through a range of award schemes.
Every year we attract hundreds of entries that exemplify the talent, dedication and innovation of individuals and teams. Whether it's great maintenance, a wonderful welcome, careful repair and conservation work, a superb volunteer team or installing vital new facilities; we want to hear more about your projects and people and we would love you to nominate them for one of our awards.
Each award has its own prize.
We are finalising plans for our 2023 awards programme. We will be celebrating wonderful buildings, generous volunteers and warm welcomes again this year, so keep an eye on this page for updates. We expect the submissions process to go live after Easter, please make sure you are signed up to our churches newsletter at the bottom of this page if you would like early notification.
In the meantime, you can look back at last year's categories, finalists and winners using the links below and in the menu.
For the first time, we brought all our awards schemes together into one nominations process and one event. Winners were invited to a sparkling high tea at Mercers' Hall in the City of London on 24th October 2022.
Discover our winners, read the programme or rewatch the livestream here.In previous years we have run the various awards separately, sometimes bringing some together for an awards ceremony. Most recently we have presented awards at virtual ceremonies broadcast online. Scroll through some photos of our winners in a gallery. We work closely with partners, funders and sponsors across the sector. They bring their specialist skills and experience to planning and promoting the awards and the expert judging panels often agonise over very tightly fought shortlists. As a result, our awards are sought after.

The Marsh Church and Community Hero Awards celebrate volunteers who have had great ideas about using their church building, have contributed significantly to its sustainability, or who help their community using their building.
The church architecture awards are run by the National Churches Trust and the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association. They honour excellence and creativity in church architecture.
The Mercers’ Company is a long term partner of National Churches Trust, having awarded funding for refurbishment grants from Mercers’ Charitable Foundation and the Charity of Sir Richard Whittington to increase the community use of churches. The Company goes beyond funding for its partners and so is providing the Mercers’ Hall and refreshments for the 2022 awards event.
