St Athernase

 

St Athernase is an A-listed Romanesque church with B-listed graveyard located I Leuchars, Scotland. The apse dates from c.1150 with the bell tower added in 1745 and the current nave added in 1857. The church has been a place of continuous Christian worship for nine hundred years and is the focal point of the conservation area of Leuchars. Inside the church, there is a commemorative stone to Sir Robert Carnegie of Kinnaird who was the ambassador to Mary of Guise, wife of King James V and to her daughter, Mary, Queen of Scots.
