Adderbury, Oxfordshire
It has a tremendous tower and spire combination, and the walls seem as much glass as stone. The wide nave is 14th century, and the transepts are 13thcentury, with fine stone carving, including a capital showing the special North Oxfordshire motif of linked arms.
The glory of St Mary's is the superb chancel, built in the early years of the 15th century by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester and founder of Winchester College and New College, Oxford, whose family lived at nearby Broughton.
