St John's is a fine example of a late Victorian red-brick church.
Consecrated on St Barnabas day 1899 it contains many examples of fine wood carving, the pulpit, choir stalls and reredos being of particular note. The furnishings and organ were installed in 1909/10 and famous US steel magnate Andrew Carnegie contributed 25% of the cost.
We also have two notably fine misericords (you may need to search a little to find them!) In addition we have many fine stained glass windows in both traditional and contemporary style. Red brick is used both inside and out with stone used for details. The internal pillars have no traditional capitals and merge gently into the arches above.
The church is well worth a visit and there is so much to see.
