St Botolph's church dating back to the 12th century, also has a modern twist, being re-ordered in 2008. Has many historical features, including Saxon Font, Norman pillars and an inscription from 1652. A Royal Coat of Arms which may also belong to Tudor times. Carved high up, supporting the roof beam is a figure of a Queen's head. This could indicate a connection with Queen Elizabeth I when in the 16th century, The Manor of Shepshede was owned by the crown.

It has ornate memorials of seven generations of the Phillipps family, later called de Lisle, who were Patrons of Garendon Estate and Patrons of St Botolph's church from 17th to the 19th century. They were Turkey Merchant employed in trading merchandise in Turkey.

There is a trefoiled piscina with a double bowl dating from the 14th century.

A splendid organ dating from 1892 in the West Gallery and some memorabilia saved after earlier refurbishments. The church is a Grade I Listed Building.
