An attractive Grade II* Listed village church set in the village of Sparkford in South Somerset.
The church of St Thomas A Becket lies in the shadow of the mighty Iron Age hill fort, Cadbury Castle.
Although rebuilt in the perpendicular style in the 15th century, the central arcade within indicates that a church with chancel, nave south aisle and tower existed in the 13th century. Highlights of this beautiful church include a magnificent 18th century reredos (stone carving of the Crucifixion) by Thomas Earp of Lambeth, and in the south aisle, a 15th century wall painting of a mitred bishop, believed to be St Thomas A Becket. Stained glass by Clayton and Bell adorn the windows, featuring the Ascension (east window), Mary and Martha (chancel) and Annunciation (south transept).
