St. Oswald's church is one of two churches which form the Parish of St Cuthbert and St Oswald, Hebburn, formed in 2006 after many years as two separate parishes. The churches are apart one and a half miles apart.
St Oswalds was completed in 1883 and was formerly the hub of a ming community, namely Hebburn Colliery. It is a brick building with stone dressings, in the Gothic style with two aisles. The roof is tiled and has a small spire tower. The interior has two aisles and two altars; a high altar and a Lady Altar. The choir stalls feature some decorative wood panelling and the nave home to some interesting stained glass window. One more recent one was designed by Professor Leonard Evetts, the most prolific stained glass window designer of the 20th century.
