From roof repairs to running costs: fundraising for churches.
GeckoFundraising Ltd raises money for churches of every denomination, for the building and for the work that happens inside it. On the capital side that means roof and stonework repairs, reordering, accessible toilets and kitchens, heating and lighting, community spaces and conservation projects. On the revenue side it means funding for outreach, staff, youth work, foodbanks, nightshelters and running costs, so that a church can keep serving its community while the building work goes on.
Church building projects are different from other fundraising. Before most funders will commit, you need a faculty or your denomination's consent, a current Quinquennial Inspection or condition report, planning permission or listed building consent, a conservation architect's specification and, for roof repairs or replacement, a bat survey. We understand all of these, along with the RIBA stages, the Net Zero requirements that now shape heating and lighting decisions in churches, and, for new halls and extensions, BREEAM. That means we can work alongside your architect, your PCC, church council or trustees, and your DAC or listed buildings committee, and turn their documents into applications that heritage funders recognise. Fundraisers rarely read a QI report, and architects rarely write bids. We do both.
We can work with churches of any denomination, including Church of England, Church in Wales, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Baptist, United Reformed and independent churches, and with the funders that support them, such as the Places of Worship Renewal Fund, the National Churches Trust, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Benefact Trust, county historic churches trusts and the many family and local trusts that give to churches quietly year after year.
GeckoFundraising Ltd is led by Amie Elliott, a fundraising consultant and member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, listed in its Directory of Consultants, with almost 25 years of fundraising experience. Amie is supported by a small, trusted team of associate bid writers, each an expert in their own field, and she is also the founder of Vantage Grants Assessors Ltd, which assesses grant applications for funders, so she knows exactly how an application is read on the other side of the table. In 2025/26 our clients saw £29 back for every £1 spent with us.
For building projects we price the early stages at a fixed fee, from a Capital Funding Readiness Review at RIBA Stage 0 to a full application to a major capital funder, and then support the delivery phase on a retainer of one day a week or two days a month, so that we get to know your church properly and build a pipeline of applications rather than writing a single bid in isolation.
