Our annual analysis of Historic England’s Heritage at Risk register reveals the church heritage ‘danger zones’ across England.
The Heritage at Risk register, which is produced annually by Historic England, lists heritage assets including church buildings that are in danger of being lost. The 2025 list includes 976 churches, with 57 of those being new additions.
Our spatial analysis mapped each church on the list by MP’s constituencies and shows the areas across England with the greatest number of churches at risk. It reveals that more than 60% of MPs in England have at least one at-risk church in their constituency, with some having as many as 19.
