West End has the First World War memorial from St Paul’s Congregational Church and has a memorial chair commemorating Dr John Hunter Rutherford, the founder of Bath Lane Congregational Church and a noted educationalist and social reformer in the 1800s in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Dr Rutherford established schools for poor children and Bath Lane College which subsequently became Newcastle Technical College, Newcastle Polytechnic and now Northumbria University. A memorial window to Dr Rutherford which was kept at West End is now displayed at Northumbria University.
