The church is a mid-20th century landmark and unique in its bold and impressive 1950s design, which infuses Modern Perpendicular Gothic with Scandinavian and Art Deco elements. It is one-of-a-kind. As well as an impressive exterior, the church features striking marble and mosaic interiors.

It was local working families who made the building possible. When the church was first built, local working families gave something called 'brick money', making personal sacrifices to ensure the church you see today could be constructed.
