Today, the Cathedral continues the same mission set by the Benedictine Fathers in the 19th century and stands as an outward symbol of the Catholic faith in south Wales.
Welsh architect John Humphreys built what is said to be perhaps the most ambitious chapel in Wales in 1870, for the then huge sum of £18,000.
Morriston, Glamorgan
It is known as the 'Cathedral of Welsh Nonconformity' and has a largely unaltered interior and fittings.
The facade has eight huge Corinthian columns and arches and the interior is a masterclass in mahogany, with an impressive choir gallery and a distinctive three case organ.
The Tabernacle Morriston Choir was formed in 1876 and is one of the longest established mixed choirs still performing. The choir still rehearses and performs at Morriston Tabernacle.
The chapel and its associated spaces host culture groups, choir practices, activity days for the disadvantaged and regular Sunday services.
