St Martin dominates the skyline of Stamford.

Our church is open for visiting and as a place of prayer from 8am until around 5pm (these are only rough times and are subject to change depending on events in the building and availability). If you are travelling a long distance to visit, it is always worth contacting us first to make sure it is open for you. We are very happy to open the church 'out of hours' for people who are visiting from afar.

There has been a church on this site since 1140 – and the font inside the building dates back to this time.

The current building was built between 1480 and 1485 and is one of the five remaining medieval churches in Stamford.

The building itself is a very important example of a complete perpendicular style and retains its original naves and hammer beam roof.    the tombs of the Cecil family from nearby Burghley House .

You’ll also find in the church stunning 1844 Gothic-style oak box pews with elaborately carved pew ends to the design of local architect, Edward Browing. Browning also designed the pulpit, which was installed in 1845.

There are many tombs of important local figures inside the church. This includes the Cecil family from nearby Burghley House (some of them listed in their own right). It also has a fine collection of stained glass windows some of which came from Tattershall church. Our community is small but very friendly and we enjoy welcoming new people and visitors to our church.
