It was dramatically changed in the 1820s when the original Norman tower was replaced with the present rather insignificant one and when the north wall was removed in order to make the nave bigger. This work was undertaken to enlarge the church for a growing population. The simple Norman chancel arch with its zigzag decoration is still in place.
