St John's dates from the 13th to the 15th centuries, and has kept its 17th century pulpit, some of its box pews of the same age, and an 18th century west gallery.

There are two particularly interesting early 19th century monuments in the church: one is by John Flaxman, the other by Sir Richard Westmacott, the best known ecclesiastical sculptors of their time.
