St James was built in1875 by the Clothworkers Company in Early English style. It replaced an older church with roots in the 13th century.
With a tall spire and fine ring of bells, a recent reordering and a full upgrading of all its facilities, the church is able to offer visitors a real oasis of peace in this busy neighbourhood. A printed guide is available.
