In medieval times the dedication was to St Oswald but changed at some point before the 17th century.

Inside, interesting features are the 13th century tracery of the east window of the north aisle, a medieval altar slab, and several memorials and tombstones, including that of Sir Robert de Jort, lord of the manor and sheriff of Nottingham in the 14th century. There are three windows by CE Kempe and two of modern glass.
