Mr Andrew Montague gave land for a permanent church to be built which was completed in June 1898. The occasion was marked by a luncheon held in Rossington Street School, attended by many local dignitaries who had contributed to the building costs of St Albans.

The Convent of Mercy was opened in 1927 as a branch of the House of Clifford which has its headquarters at Cantley.

The church is grade II listed and there are many interesting things to see inside!
