Simply stand in the east end and drink in the dazzling semicircle of soaring stained glass panels, by Edward Burne-Jones and Sadie McLellan, for a rare treat.

The prolific architect James Sellars designed this tall apsed church with the Sainte Chapelle of Paris firmly in mind, and was also inspired by the work of another acclaimed Scottish architect, William Leiper.

It was built without pillars as, it was deemed, these would interefere with the congregation's view and the building's acoustics. The organ was made by H Willis & Son in 1876 and restored in 1930.

In 1921 the chancel was remodelled as a war memorial.
