Located in the grounds of Muncaster Castle, it is believed that worship on this site dates to pre Christian times.

St Mark's offers breathtaking views over the remote West Allen valley and a fascinating local history and is on the Isaac Tea Trail North Pennines Heritage Walk.

A place of calm in a very busy world.

Step through a 12th century doorway into an oasis of calm where worship, history, wood and stones have tales to tell.

The year 1750 is embossed in lead on the porch doorway and services are held once every fortnight. Inside there is a warm and welcoming atmosphere of a traditional country chapel complete with a pot bellied stove. Sheep and cattle graze in the next field and dry stone walls bound a woodland fringe and hay meadows. It is a place of peace and tranquillity.</span></span></p>

A very humble building, built from Roman stone, and includes a reused Roman arch, it can probably claim to be the oldest standing building in Cumbria.

The church is a Grade II* listed building.

This small, charming church nestles in the village of Muker in Upper Swaledale and has much to interest the casual visitor.

A masterpiece of Gothic Revival, designed by EW Pugin.

Designed by Philip Hardwicke and completed in 1823, the design is based in St Paul's in Covent Garden, with many internal design features referencing our patron St John the Evangelist.
