The origin of Emmanuel Church lies in the rapid development of West Hampstead in the second half of the 19th century after the arrival of the railways.

There has been a church on the site for about 1000 years.

Only the west tower from the medieval 15th century church survives, the rest was built in 1739 by Rhodes of Barlborough and 1839 by Colvin.

The distinctive appearance of the church in this village near the River Severn is due mainly to the contrasting balustrade top section of the tower.
