Prestwich is not mentioned in the Domesday Book but there is evidence of a church on the site from at least 1200.

St Mary’s church stands on the site of much older places of worship, the first documented place of worship here was established by Sir Robert de Rockley in 1412 as a private chantry chapel.

This lovely church, has been a place where worship has been offered to God for over 1000 years, with the original Norman church constructed during the reign of Henry I (d 1135).

A church that tells the history of architecture over the centuries, from the Normans to the Victorians, and a real live who done it as you walk round our lovely church situated in the middle of a beautiful churchyard.

In the heart of the village where King John built his castle and PG Wodehouse’s aunt was the Vicar’s wife, stands the Norman church of St Mary.

John Hughes, the famous Methodist minister, preached and lived at the chapel until his death in 1854.

St Wilfrid’s is a beautiful and ancient building dating mostly from the 13th century.
