This beautiful church 'on the hill' has been here since 1717, surrounded by a large graveyard that has an abundance of wild flowers in the late spring AND early summer and glow worms.

There is evidence of a church on this site in Saxon times, consecrated on the 29th September 998, of which nothing now remains.

It is not known when there was first a church here but the present building indicates that a substantial church was built on this site in the late part of the 13th century.

St Winifred’s is one of the finest village churches in Devon with many interesting features, in particular its interesting location, as rather than atop a hillside where it would be visible, St Winifred's is set on a terrace that cannot be seen from the sea.
