Founded in the late 12th century under Bishop Puiset of Durham, it was built on land granted by the Diocese to Sherburn Hospital for sick brethren to convalesce.

We are a friendly family church with a big heart, serving our community in many ways and hoping to do much more in the future.

The church is a Grade II* listed building.

Following a fire, set by arsonists in 2006, the repairs to one of Cumbria's largest parish churches continues and the building is once again open to visitors, who are uplifted and captivated by its remarkable space.

A fine example of a Georgian church, complete with balcony as well as interesting stained glass windows depicting the life of St Cuthbert and a moving pulpit, the only one of its type in the country.

This ‘hidden gem’ is the earliest known surviving example of a small English parish church designed by ‘God’s Architect’ Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin.

This impressive Palladian chapel stands proudly in the grounds of Gibside House, which was once owned by the Bowes-Lyons family, relations of the late Queen Mother.

Built in 1860 to an Athony Salvin design the building replaced the earlier church dating to 1169.
