A red brick, Victorian church proud to serve its local community.

'The church of the great wood', is derived from its situation in a district abounding with timber of ancient and luxuriant growth, and with groves of stately oaks and other trees.

The church celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017, and is a Grade II listed building.

Sited in a scenic location in the Yorkshire Dales, with a view up the Stainmore pass through the high Pennines, it sits almost equidistant between the market towns of Barnard Castle and Richmond; at the heart of the community of Hutton Magna.

Probably the oldest surviving non conformist chapel in north Wales, this stone building was built in 1770.

St Mary and St Michael's church is said to have very early origins, as 9th and 10th century richly carved crosses were found on the site and are now on display in the church.

Built 1150-1250, although of Saxon origin, which is associated with John Wyclif and contains more medieval stained glass than anywhere else in County Durham, with the exception of the Cathedral.

Built in 1726, the church commands extensive views across the Lyth valley towards the distant Lakeland fells and Morecambe Bay.
