A lovely medieval church overlooking the Waveney Valley.

Hayling Island has been a ‘holy’ island since the late Iron Age when an important Celtic shrine was built.

A 12th century church, located down a leafy lane, a short journey from the centre of the village and just 5 miles from the heart of Constable Country.

This site has been a place of worship since 1854, and was frequented by Queen Victoria when in residence on the Isle of Wight, the very fabric of our church is rich in royal history and heritage.

This is a place to connect with the ancients and the elemental; a medieval pilgrimage chapel in a dramatic setting, perched on a cliff face above the Atlantic sea, approached down a flight of worn stone steps.

The church was built in 1956 and is Grade II because of its unusual architecture, particularly the walls which contain hundreds of small panes of coloured glass.

There has been a church on this site since 1090 and St Mary's once hosted (the then Princess) Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as a bridesmaid in 1931.

The church was constructed in 1836, designed by noted local architect Joseph Butler.

It is believed that the first church was built on Roman foundations in the late 7th or early 8th century.

This amazing building is the surviving part of a Benedictine priory that was established here early in the 12th century as an offshoot of the great Norman abbey of Lessay in France, but it soon became independent.

14th and 15th century church with magnificent tombs of some old Dukes of Suffolk.

Overlooking the wetland nature reserve of Amberley Wild Brooks, St Michael's is itself overlooked by the scarp slope of the South Downs.
