This pretty country village is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Brodesworde’.

A Victorian building designed by architect Edward Hughes in 1871; we are open 363 days of the year during daylight hours.

When it opened its doors in 1904 it was declared to be ‘a church built by miners for the miners’.

The church is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. A church of some kind has stood here on this site for over 1,000 years.

Hooton Pagnell was recorded in the Domesday Survey, although there is no mention of a church we know one existed as in 1089 Ralph Paganel granted the church to the Priory of Holy Trinity in York.

St John's is a grade II listed church built in 1866. It has a beautiful calm interior with a hammer beam wooden intricately carved ceiling and fascinating modern stained glass windows, including one of John Wesley preaching in the market place.

The church is a good example of the work of George Edmund Street, the famous 19th century architect.

Standing on a mound in the centre of the village our church is an unknown gem, here are intriguing masons marks, a 1498 incised slab, a 1595 brass and a medieval altar stone.

This quaint parish church of St Nicholas holds a wonderful story within its walls, inside are memorials to two Spanish citizens of the Guevera family who came to England with Katherine of Aragon.
