St Peter’s is mentioned in the Domesday Survey in 1086, suggesting that there was a church on this site then.

This Grade I church is well grouped with the adjacent Elizabethan mansion.

The church has a famous Pugin rood screen and set in front of it a marble nave altar and a Queen Anne pulpit from which the Wesley brothers have preached.
