St Nicholas church is a beautiful 15th century building set in Sheffield's Peak District, with many interesting features: glass, stonework, and woodwork.

This delightful church was built in 1851-1852.

Dating from Norman times, our church will give you a sense of the history of the area whose name derives from ‘Anastan’ a solitary stone and is known to have had prehistoric settlements in the area.

Grade I Listed church, with maritime connections and unique tales of tragedy, Tudor tower and largest churchyard in southern England.

Long Sutton's tower, standing to one side of the church, was built in the 13th century and, until the 18th century had open arches at its base.

The church was built in 1843 by Sydney Smirke and enlarged 1860.

The greatness of St James lies in its fine proportion, inventive and varied details, with an interior that is an exercise in chaste simplicity, beauty is in the traceried windows, reredos and Morris & Company window.

There has been a church on this site since the reign of Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) and it is the only one noted in the Domesday Book as being in the ‘vast and ancient territory of Hallamshire’.
