The church was founded in 1120, is one of the architectural jewels in Cumbria and well worth a visit.

St Bartholomew’s was founded in 1110 as the church for the lay workers at Hyde Abbey, where the remains of King Alfred the Great are believed to have been re-interred.

There was probably a church on this hilltop overlooking the River Exe in late Saxon times, but the first stone church was erected shortly after the Norman Conquest and consecrated in 1073.

Built of ironstone and chalk, St Peter's has undergone much restoration yet still retains its rural Lincolnshire charm.

Set close to Bowes Castle and surrounded by trees the small, low church, dating from the 12th century is easy to miss, but is well worth a visit.

St Giles church stands beside picturesque almshouse and near to the great house of the Ashley Coopers, Earls of Shaftesbury.

The origin and date of St Andrew’s is not certain but some authorities believe it is the original church of Hertford, the parish being created in 860 AD.

Built between 1401 and 1405 it is a Grade i listed building and one of the finest example of Perpendicular architecture in the country.

Built in 1880 by a local builder using local stone and financed by a local family, St Peter's Martindale is noted for the modern stained glass windows depicting Christian themes, dedicated to past members of the community and other notables.
